Business Contuity and
Contingency Planning
Business Contuity and
Contingency Planning have become extremely hot ticket items since
the lead up to Y2K and then September 11. Particularly the latter
changed the way that IT divisions now think about their internal
Disaster Recovery plans.
The business can no
longer afford to neglect the Business Continuity Process and need to
develop Business Continuity plans based on the Business impact
assessment and the Risk assessment. Instead of IT running off and
doing their own thing, their DRP’s must be aligned to the Business
Continuity plans!
Business Contuity and
Contingency Planning – unavoidable!
Business continuity
management and contingency planning are of course essential and
unavoidable tasks. However, the creation of a sound continuity and
contingency plan is a complex undertaking, involving a number of
stages and discrete activities.
I have already
mentioned the BIA and Risk assessment so on to the plan! This of
course is far from easy. Then there are the maintenance and testing
phases, to ensure that the plan remains current. Even having
arranged all these matters there is audit to consider - and of
course, there is the not so small matter of ISO17799!
Business Contuity and
Contingency Planning – reality!
This new reality
allows organizations to choose how they operate their business, with
few limitations, and corporate management focus can now be on the
most efficient method. Consequently the Impact on IT Services is
immense.
